Fake Citation Detector ("the extension"), made by DiFlowRin, checks whether the references in a bibliography exist. It has no account, no server of its own and no analytics.

What the extension processes

References you check. When you paste references or choose "Check this reference" on selected text, the extension sends the reference text, or parts of it (title, DOI, ISBN, arXiv or PubMed ID), directly from your browser to these public bibliographic services:

They answer with the bibliographic record. Their own privacy policies apply to those requests. Requests to Crossref, OpenAlex and NCBI include our contact address (admin@diflowrin.com), as those services ask, and nothing about you.

Selected text and article sources. The extension reads the current tab only when you ask it to. "Check this reference" reads the text you selected. "Check sources in this page" reads the article's reference list and its DOI, arXiv and PubMed links, together with the sentence around each link. These are processed in your browser and looked up like any other reference. If you choose "Allow reading pages", the browser lets the side panel button do this without the right-click menu. Pages are still read only when you press the button.

Cited web pages. If you allow access to websites, the extension opens the links cited in references that the databases do not list (reports, policies, news, blogs) to check that the page exists and matches the citation. The page is requested directly from your browser, without your cookies, so the site sees an ordinary visit with no login. If a page is gone or blocked, the extension asks the Internet Archive (archive.org) for a saved copy of that address. Nothing from these pages is sent to us.

Optional AI. If you add your own OpenRouter API key, references that the extension cannot read well, and any verdict you ask to have explained, are sent from your browser to openrouter.ai and the model you chose. OpenRouter's privacy policy applies. Your key is sent only to openrouter.ai. An optional OpenAlex key is sent only to OpenAlex.

What is stored, and where

In your browser (chrome.storage) only:

We receive none of this. You can clear the cache in Settings. Removing the extension deletes everything.

Links to our sites

The card about DiFlowRin Research and the links in Settings point to diflowrin.com and the Microsoft Store. They carry campaign parameters (utm_*, cid) so that we can count visits that came from the extension. Nothing identifying is added. When you uninstall the extension, the browser opens a short, optional feedback page on diflowrin.com.

What we never do

We never sell data, use it for advertising, build profiles, or transfer it for purposes unrelated to checking references.

Extensia verifică dacă referințele dintr-o bibliografie există. Nu are cont, nu are server propriu și nu folosește analytics.

Referințele verificate. Textul referinței sau părți din el (titlu, DOI, ISBN, ID arXiv/PubMed) pleacă direct din browserul tău către serviciile bibliografice publice:

  • Crossref
  • OpenAlex
  • DataCite
  • NCBI PubMed
  • Open Library
  • Semantic Scholar
  • doi.org

Cererile către Crossref, OpenAlex și NCBI includ adresa noastră de contact, la cererea acestor servicii, și nimic despre tine.

Textul selectat și sursele articolului. Extensia citește fila curentă doar la cererea ta:

  • „Verifică sursa” citește textul selectat;
  • „Verifică sursele din această pagină” citește lista de referințe a articolului și linkurile DOI, arXiv și PubMed, împreună cu fraza din jurul fiecărui link.

Dacă alegi „Permite citirea paginilor”, butonul din panou poate face asta fără meniul click dreapta, tot doar când îl apeși.

Paginile web citate. Dacă permiți accesul la site-uri, extensia deschide linkurile din referințele pe care bazele academice nu le listează (rapoarte, politici, știri, bloguri), ca să verifice dacă pagina există și se potrivește cu citarea. Pagina e cerută direct din browserul tău, fără cookie-urile tale, deci site-ul vede o vizită obișnuită, fără autentificare. Dacă pagina nu mai există sau e blocată, extensia cere de la Internet Archive (archive.org) o copie salvată a acelei adrese. Nimic din aceste pagini nu ne este trimis.

AI opțional. Doar dacă adaugi cheia ta OpenRouter, referințele greu de citit și verdictele pe care ceri să fie explicate pleacă din browser către openrouter.ai. Cheia este trimisă doar către openrouter.ai.

Stocare. Totul stă doar în browserul tău:

  • setările
  • cheile opționale
  • cache-ul răspunsurilor (cel mult 30 de zile)
  • ultima verificare, până închizi browserul

Noi nu primim nimic. Dezinstalarea extensiei șterge totul.

Linkuri. Linkurile spre diflowrin.com și Microsoft Store au parametri de campanie (utm_*, cid), fără date de identificare. La dezinstalare se deschide o pagină opțională de feedback.

Nu vindem date, nu le folosim pentru reclame și nu facem profiluri.
